Ironport problems

Some customers are having problems sending legitimate emails. The error looks like this (without the italics):
554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA’s poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means.
This message is being issued by Cisco Ironport email filters at the other (receiving) end. There are no MailMarshal errors here, the email is being refused by them.
Why would Ironport hang up on legitimate inbound emails?
The reason is they run their own reputation service. Generally we always use Spamhaus because they are most effective, cheapest and don’t make mistakes very often. That’s the benefit of having ten years experience under your belt. MailMarshal also gives you a quick and easy way to whitelist people if there is a problem. The Ironport internal reputation system is called “senderbase” and can be checked at senderbase.org.
It’s supposed to be a feature but clearly isn’t working very well here.
This cannot be fixed by us, or at your end. You must contact your customer to get them to stop hanging up on legitimate email. We cannot force them to take delivery of your email, even if they are paying you good money for it!
This does not mean you have sent spam, been hacked or are blacklisted by any legitimate reputation service out there. You can check over 100 blacklists by using this web based checking service.
Sadly, this will affect your ability to send emails to anyone who uses an Ironport system in the world.
I suggest you fax both Ironport and their customers until they fix their systems.
