Dell dumps 25,000 Blackberries

landfill

So I’m sitting here next to John, I and read out this headline from an IT News story. Dell strips staff of 25,000 Blackberries, switching to Dell smart phones.

I’m like - imagine having 25,000 phones to organise inside your company!

John’s like - and it’s all going straight to land fill.

And he’s right. How much space does 25,000 phones take up? How many heavy metals do 25,000 phones represent? Do we measure how long they take to rot by half-lives like nuclear waste? And to think Greenpeace just gave Dell a big tick for recycling practices - heh heh…

Google suggests one Blackberry model weighs 134grams, so that would be something like 3,350,000 grams of landfill. Literally tonnes.

PS. Do you think the ones with screen protectors would take longer to rot?
