VBMania

warning

A number of customers have sent us copies of an email McAfee sent out alerting to a spam they call VBMania.

“McAfee has received confirmation that some customers have received large volumes of spam containing a link to malware, a mass-mailing worm identified as VBMania. The symptom reported thus far is that the spam volume is overwhelming the email infrastructure. Static URLs in the email link to a .SCR file.”

The key attribute in this spam is that the attack/malware is resident on the web site. The email only contains URL links.

Therefore all the MailMarshal anti spam rules will act to stop this email. Additionally, because the email uses URL links both Spamhaus and SURBLs will blacklist these sites in due course.

We have not seen this attack get around any MailMarshal site as yet, you need do nothing special.
