Microsoft BPOS coming up lemons

lemon

Second time in a month Microsoft cloud service BPOS had service disruptions. In this article Mary Jo Foley writes “As I noted late last week, I, too, know cloud services outages are common — and not just in Microsoft’s case”. That’s reference to the problems Google have been having with their on-line services.

Story here.

Don’t expect high service levels when things go wrong either. This is my favourite quote from Jack Zubarev, the CEO of Parallels, one of the automation vendors talking about cloud based service delivery:

“Commoditisation means that providers can’t afford to get even one trouble ticket from a customer, as that will wipe out the associated profit for the next two months. Automation and self-service are key to profitability.”

Zero service by design.
