Adobe Under Seige

In security, poor Adobe is the new Microsoft, targeted by endless streams of bugs and exploits attacking their customers with all kinds of malware. One of Adobe’s big security problems is their Flash Player. Not only is it wide spread and buggy, it’s bundled inside other products. Like Google’s Chrome browser for example.
As a consequence of bundling Flash, Google Chrome users become more exposed to it’s bugs. They cannot simply apply the Adobe patch when it ships (which takes forever), they have to wait for Google to issue a new ‘bundled’ version. The same is true of Adobe themselves, who bundle Flash with their own Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader programs. So even though they themselves release a patch for Flash it doesn’t fix the Acrobat bundle until they release a new version of Acrobat as well.
It took Microsoft years to move vast quantities of old buggy software off desktops. They still have acres of IE6 out there and it’s possibly the worst browser ever written. How much longer will it take Adobe and what impact will it have on their reputation?
