Cloud based MailMarshal

In the last few days many people have asked us about MailMarshal As A Service (MaaS). This is our attempt to answer those questions. For some MaaS will make sense but for many it will not.
What is MaaS?
MailMarshal as a Service (MaaS) is based on the MailMarshal SPE infrastructure, is hosted on the internet and delivered as a service. It offers a web interface which gives some control and a Quarantine Management Console.
What does MaaS offer that MailMarshal SMTP doesn’t?
You don’t host it. Therefore you need no hardware, no operating system and no SQL license. Someone else monitors and maintains the system for you.
Does it really save me bandwidth?
Probably not. MailMarshal SMTP can block over 98% of spam before it is downloaded. We examine real life statistics and explain the issues in more detail here:

Is it free or complimentary?
No. MaaS is a subscription based service like other cloud based services.
Can I use both an on-premise and an in the cloud service?
Yes. For customers with complex email systems and business processes having a processing engine at your perimeter can give invaluable routing flexibility. More complexity probably means more benefit.
Do I still have to configure or maintain things?
Yes. There is still a requirement to create rules, release emails and run reports. All solutions have an administrative component. Advanced issues like email routing are done by raising support tickets. The provider does the hardware, OS and application program so your to-do list will be smaller.
Are there are any downsides?
Maybe. We don’t think of outsourcing as a miracle cure. We see it as a two edged sword with pros and cons like any solution. You might outsource some overheads and problems - or - you might outsource all control when the chips are down and you need it most.
As always, you should carefully weigh up the return on investment and make sure whatever move you make provides clear, measurable benefits and is not a sideways or backwards one.
Do you have a list of things to consider?
Every customer is slightly different, so talk to us about your concerns. We wrote this article in an effort to raise some basic questions for an initial qualification:
