Government to preview patches?

This idea is almost straight from bizarro world.

Microsoft has launched a pilot program for governments and critical infrastructure providers to gain access to in-depth technical information about operating system patches before they are released on the second Tuesday of each month.

Oh, so the deal is that bug fixes are finished miles ahead of schedule, but rather than protect customers we hang them at reception to show to visiting government dignitaries?

And why on earth would a government need to preview a bug fix?

Maybe government is going to ‘vet’ the bugs and decide which ones are real and which ones they can just legislate away into thin air?

Brilliant move from Microsoft of course, my hats off to the looser who thought this up.

Once they get enough government red tape in the patching loop, they can never be hauled over the coals for scandelous delays in fixing crappy engineering. All they do is email some info to government then forward their email to the iphone. After that, it’s a month at the beach waiting for the red tape brigade to wade their million yards of important administration.

Her or His Mum must be very proud.
