Online Fraud a Growth Industry

According to the ACCC online fraud is a growth industry, and MailMarshal is on the front line.

“The ACCC recorded an increase of over 100 per cent in reports about online shopping scams during 2009, compared to 2008”

“Nearly 70 per cent of consumers that contacted the ACCC about scams during 2009 said they were contacted by scammers via the internet”

What’s sad about this is almost all perpetrators are based offshore, so there is very little success getting victims money back - and figure quoted is $70 million dollars so it’s it’s not chicken feed. This ACCC campaign is targeted at education and prevention.
