How to check your own email DNS

This video is for anyone who wants to check their internet DNS records, specifically for email. In our experience many Australian domains have incorrect PTR records; sometimes referred to as ‘reverse DNS’ records. This video steps through how to check your DNS using the DOS command nslookup.

In summary;
The MX record shows the machine name that routes email to and from your domain,
the A record resolves that machine name to an IP address,
the PTR points that IP address back to the machine name.

Remember, because of spam, people are checking your inbound IP address. If your PTR record is not correct or does not exist you may have problems sending email to some people.
