This weeks Super 14 Picks and Predictions

I have to say there were a couple of surprising results on the weekend. Most obviously the Reds getting up against my beloved Crusaders at home… but also an astonishing game in Johannesburg between the Lions and the Chiefs.

The Chiefs 72 to 65 point win over the Lions included a total of 18 Tries.
There had to be some issues with defence from both teams and certainly at times both sides got overwhelmed. While not a classic game of rugby I was hugely entertained and we continue to see support for the team with the ball from the officials.

“One-on-one defence let us down a bit,” Lions captain Cobus Grobelaar said.

There was of course a predictable response from one particular Northern Hemisphere rugby scribe: Times Online Link

Tips for this Week:

Crusaders to beat the Sharks. Two losses in a row is not likely.
Stormers to beat the Brumbies. Only because they are at home. I like the Brumbies and will be happy whichever way it goes.
Hurricanes will win at home against the Lions.
Reds have a real chance against the Blues at home. I hate doing it but Reds to win.
Chiefs in a tight one on the way home against the Force. They should have just enough left in the tank.
Cheetahs to beat the Highlanders. After last weeks results I have tossed a coin on this one. Home team in South Africa even if it is the Cheetahs.
Bulls will win. Waratahs are not showing us much for all of the early season talk.
