Super 14 Picks and Predictions 18th Feb. 2010
Well the Super 14 kicked off again this year with commentators expressing excitement about the possibility of it once again being an entertaining spectacle. Many of my friends were disappointed in last years offering and the crowd numbers and grumbling amongst the media would suggest that something needed to be done.
There was a lot of discussion during the commentary at the weekend about a change of approach from referees and administrators. I found this article by GREG GROWDEN on Rugby Heaven quite helpful in understanding the intent of this new approach.
Greg Growden’s Link
‘Rugby at last had come to its senses. It remembered it is a ball game, and like all good ball games, it encourages the team that has possession of the ball. For too long, it had been the other way around, with defending teams getting too much of a leg-up. Thankfully, the right balance has returned’
Tips for this Week:
This week looks like a straight forward round with few surprises. Having said that I like the look of the Highlanders at home against the Blues.
Highlanders to beat the Blues in an upset.
Crusaders at home will have too much class.
Sharks should bounce back against the Cheetahs.
Chiefs will build on a result that went their way last week and beat the Lions
Bulls in Pretoria I expect will be too strong for the strongest of the Australian sides, the Brumbies.
Sharks at home in what should be a tight one. Waratahs might surprise but I don’t think so.
